Castle Hill Productions is a multifaceted corporation which distributes,
produces and represents motion pictures and producers. Founded in
1978 by Julian Schlossberg it has offices located in New York and
Florida. Castle Hill Productions is entering its twenty sixth
year of business and now owns a library of more than 400 motion pictures,
making it one of the largest independent film companies in the world
distributing first-run, classic and reissue movies to theaters, pay
TV and basic cable, home video, TV syndication and all other motion
picture outlets worldwide. Castle Hill distributes theatrically eight to ten films every year. This year they will distribute Ken Loach's A Fond Kiss; Emile, starring Ian McKellen; and Finding Home, starring Geneviève Bujold and Louise Fletcher. Also, they will be re-releasing the restored Academy Award nominated Swiss film, The Boat is Full. Recently they distributed the Academy Award nominated films The Line King and A Great Day in Harlem. Castle Hill distributed and restored Orson Welles' Othello. They also distributed Elaine May's Mikey & Nicky starring Peter Falk and John Cassavetes; Horton Foote's Tomorrow with Robert Duvall; Woody Alllen's What's Up Tiger Lily; and the John Cassavetes Collection including A Woman Under the Influence and Faces. With Julian Schlossberg as producer, Castle Hill distributed in the U.S. In The Spirit starring Peter Falk, Marlo Thomas, Elaine May and Melanie Griffith. Warner Bros. distributed the film for the rest of the world. Castle Hill has recently produced for television Nichols & May: Take Two (PBS) and Elia Kazan: A Director's Journey (AMC), Claire Bloom's Shakespeare's Women (BRAVO) and The Lives Of Lillian Hellman (PBS). Their library also consists of many great film classics including John Ford's Stagecoach, Alfred Hitchcock's Foreign Correspondent, The Marx Bros. He produced HOLLYWOOD GHOST STORIES, starring John Carradine and HOLLYWOOD UNCENSORED, starring Peter Fonda and Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. In TV, he has produced the PBS' American Masters special Nichols & May: Take Two about the comedy team of Mike Nichols and Elaine May, Elia Kazan: A Director's Journey, which aired on American Movie Classics and was nominated for an Emmy Award, Claire Bloom’s Shakespeare’s Women which premiered on Bravo and The Lives of Lillian Hellman which premiered on PBS. He produced and directed SEX AND JUSTICE: THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE ANITA HILL/CLARENCE THOMAS HEARINGS, written and hosted by Gloria Steinem. For television from the past he conceived and developed (with Milly Sherman) the feature length film TEN FROM YOUR SHOW OF SHOWS, starring Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca. He also produced STEVE ALLEN'S GOLDEN AGE OF COMEDY and ALL THE BEST, STEVE ALLEN. Schlossberg also has a passion for bringing back classic films such as Orson Welles' OTHELLO - which he helped to restore and then re-release. In the past, he has re-distributed Elaine May's MIKEY & NICKY, starring Peter Falk and John Cassavetes; Horton Foote's TOMORROW starring Robert Duvall; Woody Allen's WHAT'S UP TIGER LILY and the John Cassavetes' Collection including A WOMAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE and FACES. He co-founded Gold Castle Records (with Danny Goldberg), where artists such as Peter, Paul & Mary, Joan Baez and Judy Collins recorded. For seven years, Schlossberg hosted MOVIE TALK, a four hour nationally syndicated radio program which aired first in New York on WMCA and subsequently on WOR. There, he interviewed hundreds of stars, many of whom rarely did interviews, such as Jack Nicholson and Dustin Hoffman . He also hosted MOVIE TALK on television, which aired in New York and Philadelphia on Wometco Home Theatre. His next play for Broadway will be After the Night and the Music written by Elaine May and directed by Daniel Sullivan. He is currently producing and directing, WITNESSES TO THE 20TH CENTURY, a series that will examine the major historical events of the twentieth century from some of the prominent people who lived during it. |
